Acoustic Building Design

Our building acoustic design is one of our main services: our team of professionals includes Competent Acoustic Technicians (TCA), all certified and registered in the national list of Competent Acoustic Technicians (ENTECA) according to D.L. 42/2017, qualified to carry out measurements, verify compliance with regulations and develop acoustic treatments. Thanks to their expertise, we develop acoustic insulation projects, noise barriers and deal with acoustic design for environments, offices, construction sites, acoustic soundproofing systems and insulation systems.

In the field of acoustic engineering, we also carry out environmental acoustic analyses with external noise level evaluations generated by city traffic, commercial activities, production sites, air conditioning and ventilation. We evaluate the acoustic impact through on-site analysis, phonometric simulations and exposure levels calculations, to develop technical solutions that aim to improve the acoustic performance of buildings.

Noise Control is increasingly a decisive factor in the design of buildings and systems. The acoustic project is not only an integral part of the project design, but it is also essential for balancing the effects of external noise with the inside of the building, as well as with internal noise generated by human activities, in order to improve the rooms sound quality. Here all our services in acoustic and environmental acoustic design:

Forecast Assessment of Acoustic Climate – VPCA

The Forecast Evaluation of Acoustic Climate – VPCA – is one of our services in Acoustic Design. In this evaluation, we analyse the acoustic output produced in an area, before proceeding with any building or new structure construction and changes. This assessment collects data on the noise quantity and intensity produced by natural or human sources and verifies that the noise conditions are acceptable for any incoming infrastructure such as new buildings, residential areas, schools and hospitals. This kind of study must be carried out by competent technicians before building any new infrastructure, in compliance with all regulations.

We proceed with the activity of Forecast Evaluation of Acoustic Climate in accordance with the L.Q. 447 on pollution and acoustic impact of 10/26/1995 and subsequent modifications and additions through surveys, analysis and creation of an acoustic model, i.e. a representation of the system capable of accurately and completely describing any acoustic phenomenon. The survey is carried out in accordance with the D.M. 03/16/1998. The acoustic instruments used by our company are certified in Class I and regularly calibrated. Surveys will be carried out by Environmental Acoustics Technicians, as required by National Law. Here our services in detail:

  • Acoustic climate phonometric surveys at least 24 hours in 2 positions.

  • Spot-type phonometric surveys in a suitable number at specific sources.

  • Census of the area and nearby buildings.

  • Creation of three-dimensional virtual model starting from the planimetric layout of the project and from the data provided by the customer.

  • Insertion of all internal and external sound sources, assigning specific sound powers.

  • Model calibration simulation starting from the data acquired on spot.

  • Limits compatibility assessment set by national and local legislation in force (acoustic classification plan and statutory limits).

  • Creation of graphic tables showing the isophonic curves.

  • Final technical report signed by Competent Technicians in Environmental Acoustics.

The following documents will be delivered:

  • PDF file of the Technical Report of Acoustic Climate Assessment and related attachments in digital format.

  • A3 format acoustic maps.

  • A3 format monitoring tables of the sound level.

  • A4 format graphic tables of the spot surveys.

On the basis of the findings, we will produce a Mitigation Report with proposals for interventions to reduce the noise impact. In detail, the service will be structured as follows:

  • Plant sources added in the simulation model.

  • Preliminary verification of the acoustic emissions towards the nearby receivers (not mandatory by law, but necessary to identify the correct positioning and the possible need for acoustic mitigation interventions).

  • Graphic tables creation showing the isophonic curves.

  • Supplementary technical report of the acoustic climate signed by Competent Technicians in Environmental Acoustics.

Design and evaluation of passive acoustic requirements of buildings

Thanks to its qualified technicians, we are able to design and evaluate the passive acoustic requirements of buildings in order to guarantee acoustic comfort right from the design phase of new works or renovations. Acoustic requirements Design provides a plan for analyses and interventions to reduce noise starting from the acoustic insulation of the building components, up to the insulation and containment of noise between building units, external noise, footfall noise, buildings and infrastructures technological systems activities, reverberations. Our acoustic consultancy, in the context of the design, verification, determination and evaluation of the passive acoustic requirements of buildings will be carried out according to the following operating process:

  • Stratigraphies and project building systems analyses.

  • Main technological nodes evaluation.

  • Passive acoustic requirements design.

The forecast calculation will be carried out on a sample basis on different typologies or on apartments and repetitive environments, as in the case of residences, considering the stratigraphies of the proposed structures and partitions, possibly adding up the variations in order to obtain compliance with the minimum legal requirements in terms of sound insulation. The evaluation will be performed with the aid of forecasting softwares and includes the following analysis:

  • R’w calculations (airborne sound insulation).

  • D2mnTw calculations (façade insulation).

  • Nw (trampling noise insulation).

  • Main primary and secondary acoustic bridges analysis (shafts, plant passages, singular points).

  • Drafting of any support tables in .dwg format for the resolution of acoustic bridges.

  • Calculation technical report of passive acoustic requirements and acoustic project tables with stratigraphies and detailed solutions.

Acoustic Impact Assessment

The Environmental Acoustic Impact Assessment is an engineering consultancy service offered by KITE Engineering. In the case of new production settlements, infrastructures, industrial, commercial and residential plants, it is required by current legislation to prepare this kind of acoustic assessment in order to determine whether the work complies with the limits of sound emission and immission in the settlement and surrounding areas. We carry out any Environmental Acoustic Impact Assessment through the creation of a complex acoustic mapping of the acoustic emissions towards the external environment (subject to national legislation – Law on noise pollution n. 447/95).

The survey provides a complete mapping of the acoustic emissions relating to the individual main, auxiliary and logistics components referred to air handling units serving the civil or industrial settlement. The acoustic mapping developed by our engineering company, created according to European standards, will allow, thanks to the data analysis collected in various measurement sessions, to highlight any critical issues from an acoustic point of view in different times and periods considered, day and night. Through the acoustic mapping, we will be able to evaluate in advance the acoustic adequacy of any further expansion or modification to the system layout.

The implementation of the acoustic mapping and the specific intervention required will be organised as follows:

  • Complete mapping of noise emissions through random and continuous surveys.

  • Noise emission data integration with the measured and/or calculated values of the individual components of the systems and/or technological cycles.

  • Noise emission compatibility evaluation in regards to the limits established by national and local legislation (acoustic classification plan) and certification of emissions.

  • Simulation model.

  • Highlighting of critical areas and complete characterization.

  • Preliminary Design of the necessary mitigation.
